Our Day Out - The Musical2010
WINNER: BEST MUSICAL
LIVERPOOL DAILY POST ARTS AWARDS 2009
Having won rave reviews and countless standing ovations Liverpool’s biggest show of 2009 returns for 2010 to the Royal Court Liverpool from 27 August to 9 October.
A record breaking 30,000 people saw the show during its original run, attracting stellar reviews all round...
Our Day Out was a massive TV hit when it was originally written in 1976 and was later turned into a popular stage play. In 2009, Willy Russell re-worked the script and added some fantastic songs (the songs and music co-written with director Bob Eaton) to create Our Day Out – The Musical. “One of the very very best theatrical experiences of my life – I can’t wait to do it again”. Willy Russell
A very funny and heartwarming story, Mrs Kay’s Progress Class are all on board and bound for Alton Towers until Mr Briggs gets on board! The destination changes to a zoo in North Wales but there is no stopping the fun on a trip for the class that always gets left behind. Big dance numbers, instantly recognisable characters and songs so catchy you’ll be singing them for weeks, all feature.
A host of talented Liverpool schoolchildren will once again take on the younger roles and make up the chorus having been chosen from hundreds who auditioned.
As well as the writer Willy Russell, the creative team includes: director Bob Eaton, assistant director Rachel Russell, designer Ellen Cairns, lighting designer Ian Scott, musical director Howard Gray and choreographer Beverley Norris-Edmunds.
"... Russell and his team have unearthed over 25 kids for the chorus who can all perform at a level quite outstanding."
Kevin Fearon, Chief Executive of Royal Court Liverpool, is delighted to be bringing the show back for a new audience: “Our Day Out - The Musical is the biggest show that we have produced here at the Royal Court and it was an easy decision to bring it back for 2010. Not only do we get the kudos of producing a West End scale musical in our own town but we get to work with the very best in Liverpool talent, from Willy Russell to the youngest cast member. We worked very hard to get the 2009 production just right but I am sure that this new production will be even better so audiences should book soon!”
